CASE STUDY: Grinding Linear Guideways with HPL

HPL Technology produces high quality burn-free tracks

A manufacturer of Linear Guideways (minirail) approached Meister for a solution to improve the quality of their components.  The goals were to grind a burn-free gothic track profile with shorter cycle times, tighter geometry control, and reduced friction in the final assembled part.

Meister Engineers implemented a vitrified CBN wheel utilizing the latest HPL (High Performance Lubrication) bonding technology.  HPL features an open-structured bond system with anti-frictional properties, combined with premium-grade CBN crystals. HPL technology minimizes friction and heat from bond/workpiece interactions, reduces the onset of burn, and allows faster cutting speeds.

The application was a complete success and the process was fully implemented into serial production.  Below is a summary of the process.
